Heather Davies

Nature and landscape have always been inspirational for Heather. Her smaller spontaneous watercolours painted en-plein air  contrast greatly with her larger more abstract paintings. The studio, she says affords her more time to reflect, and a free rein to experiment and develop her work.

She still loves to retain areas of translucency with watercolour, placing them strategically within the composition, however she is  not guided by the usual watercolour norms. This approach allows her the freedom to experiment.

With a combination of watercolour, drawing, mixed media and sometimes collaged material, the painting evolves. A mass of dark brooding intensity; the final outcome, a synergy of observation, memory and imagination that often surprises and excites its maker,  and hopefully the viewer as well
